Wycombe Sound is working in partnership with Nspire, part of the charity Talkback. They work with young people who have mental health and/or learning difficulties, promoting self advocacy, building confidence and self esteem, and enabling young people to gain and use skills that will help them become as independent as they can and want to be.
During their time at the radio station, young people learn how to produce a short radio show that will go out live on Wycombe Sound. They will begin to develop other essential skills, such as oral & written communication, good teamwork, and other core values.
We have already worked with a few young people from Talkback and seen how the radio station has contributed enormously to developing their self confidence so they have been able to secure employment or a place at College. The £8000 grant from the John Lewis and Partners Foundation will enable us to reach out to several more young people and make a big difference to their futures.
