Toybox - Street to School Project – North-East Delhi

Education is the single most effective way to break the cycle of poverty. Toybox works in the slums of North-East Delhi, where many children can't attend school because they have to work to support their families. These families don't understand the importance of education, and the children lack the legal documentation required to enrol and then face the prejudice of teachers once they are enrolled.

The John Lewis Foundation is giving the Street to School project £120,000 over three years.   Street to School works with parents to improve understanding of the importance of education and sending their children to school, runs education clubs in the slum communities to provide street and working children with informal schooling and homework help, and supports children to be enrolled in a local school. The project also ensures sustainable outcomes by changing cultural attitudes to street and working children.
